When your data gets to much!

 

If you find that you have to much stuff on your machine, or you want to just wipe everything and get a new operating system, then this guide is for you, formatting your machine and re-installing a new OS.

 

What you will need:

Operating System Installation CD. For this example we will assume you are installing Windows 98.

Windows 98 boot diskette

bullet

Drivers for you computers hardware, Video, Sound, Modem, etc...

bullet

Coffee, screwdrivers, hammers, stress ball, punch bag...

 

WARNING:

The following procedure will wipe all your data, EVERYTHING on your computer will be gone!!! do not proceed unless you have backed up all your data or it is your own machine you are using.

 

This guide assumes that you do not have a BIOS capable of booting from CD.

 

1. Insert the Windows 98 boot diskette into your drive an reboot the machine.

You will be presented with some options, simply press return to select the first one, 'Start computer with CD ROM support'.

After some time, you will get a command prompt. (A:\>). Now comes the mean part, type 'format c:'. This will wipe everything on your machine. (aghh!).

Depending on your hard disk size, this can take anything from a few minutes to hours.
